If you like pupusas, this is the place to go. Friendly staff, though it would help if you know a little Spanish. I take that as a sign the food is authentic.
It can get a little busy depending on the time if day.

(Translated by Google) Great food the best in the east bay!!
The only down is that they take to long to serve the food but at the end it's worth the wait!

To take away If they tell you that the order will be in 30min, it will really be 50min to 1 hour.
They need to hire waitresses who only do that, not that the cook is also a waiter and cashier.

If you want papusa stop reading and go now. Best papusa I have ever had. Kinda long wait 15 min + but that's average with any papusa spot. Super traditional. 10/10

(Translated by Google) After a couple of years this restaurant has improved a lot in taste and service.
As is to be expected in any Salvadoran restaurant where the food is made at the moment, the wait is almost an hour and as a suggestion to the owners I think they should give some chips while one waits to calm the hunger that many of us already have when we arrive.
This restaurant has improved in the last couple of years. The food quality and service have gotten better. Beware that waiting time for you food is about an hour in most Salvadorean restaurants due to the freshness of their plates. However... As a recommendation to the owner of this place, I think they should served chips while waiting.

Food is absolutely delicious! Pupusas, tamales, pasteles, all so good! Chile rellenos are the closest to my Grandma's homemade rellenos, which are my favorite. My Mom orders food here at least once a week. Better than the other local spots in the East Bay! As with most small restaurants, service could use improvement... orders take 30-60+ minutes and that's the only reason for 4 vs 5 stars.

  • *****

The food was good but the wait wasnt because it took almost an hour for my family and I to receive our food. I suggest putting a sign on the bathroom indicating that its co-ed because anyone who hasnt visited this restaurant before may assume that the restroom is for females only since the female sign is attached to the only functional restroom.

The restaurant inside was fairly bare aside from few decorations they had on the walls, was fairly quiet, and they keep more to using natural lighting. Also the service is good, it didn't take long at all to get my order and once I was done I just needed to go up the register which makes it convenient.
I had the pupusa(cheese and loroco),rice, and bean combo and it all tasted authentic. The pupusas tasted like they would if I were in El Salvador and once I saw the cheese selection they had for sale it made sense. Definitely, want to come back to try out more on the menu and to buy cheese to make pupusas at home!

El Buen Gusto is a little off the beaten track a couple blocks down the frontage road from Loveridge Rd. Somewhat dimly lit with basic decorations of flags and traditional Salvadoran outfits ( yelp.com/biz_photos/el-b ).

Like many of the Salvadoran spots in the area, it doubles as a small market for Salvadoran goods ( yelp.com/biz_photos/el-b ) along with being a restaurant ( yelp.com/biz_photos/el-b ) and for those craving sweets, they have Minutas ( yelp.com/biz_photos/el-b ) which is the Salvadoran version of shaved ice.

Anyway, I got a Chicharron y Frijol (pork & bean) and Loroco y Queso (loroco & cheese) pupusa ( yelp.com/biz_photos/el-b ) which were both pretty good; nicely cooked and not greasy.

I liked the Chicharron pupusa ( yelp.com/biz_photos/el-b ) better than the Loroco ( yelp.com/biz_photos/el-b ) as the ingredients were more balanced (the loroco was mostly cheese, which all but hid the nuttiness of the loroco).

As is typical, there's a thin, mild salsa and curtido (Salvadoran cabbage slaw yelp.com/biz_photos/el-b ) provided. The curtido here is quite mild with just a hint of oregano ( yelp.com/biz_photos/el-b ).

Friendly service, though it helps if you can speak Spanish.

El buen gusto Salvadoreño Restaurant is the best pupusas

Pretty good pupusas. Not greasy. I liked the chicharron y frijoles better than loroco y queso as the ingredients were more balanced (mostly cheese, not much loroco in that one)

Curtido isn't spicy and mildly flavored with oregano.

Honestly the best pupusas I've had in the area. And I've tried a few Salvadorean places around. Yuca frita & empanadas de leche were sooo delicious too. I'm glad I was told about this place. I'm definitely coming back.

I really enjoyed toda la comida. We went after my son's graduation, a party of 10. Cada quien escojio su platio tipico. We all shared a taste of each. To-do estaba riquisimo. Finger licking good :).

So I decided to try this place out just because I heard they had a great pupusas, and yes the pupusas were good for being a little hole on the wall...but they need to work on the customer service , the servers don't really pay attention to you they take forever to bring your food out, there was only 3 or 4 tables filled, (I understand it takes time to make them but the servers were not interacting with the customers) need music or something, but the food was great. I was disappointed that they didnt have Horchata TIP:PRE ORDER YOUR FOOD SO YOU DONT WAIT SO LONG

My boyfriend found this spot about a year ago when it was owned by different people but the quality of how delicious the food is has not changed one bit! The lady who cooks has the best touch for all of their dishes! The service is always the best and they always remember you when you come back! I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who's craving pupusas, sopas, or even just pltanos con frijoles y crema!! Mmmm!!

You know that a Salvadorean restaurant is good when you see other Salvadorenos eating there....that is the case with this location! Pupusas are wonderful and I personally love their yucca con chicharron. Yum!

Had to trek to Pittsburg to meet a friend. Did a quick yelp search and found this gem! Authentic El Salvadoran food. Pupusas were perfect! I've had pretty good ones in Bernal heights and in the mission but this one kills it. Friendly waitress, super reasonable prices. Horchata was awesome. Definitely check it out if you're ever in the area.

This is by far the BEST pupusas in the east bay/contra costa county! Let me start by saying that I'm from SF, Born and raised with Salvadorian ethnic background. My grandparents raised me and I am very much in touch with my Salvadorian roots! Growing up in SF, my favorite Salvadorian restaurant has always been "La Sanataneca". Not too long ago, they sadly closed down. I don't know why. I was so devastated! My family and I recently moved to the Pittsburg/Antioch area and we're so sad that we have tried all the Salvadorian restaurants in the area and nothing compares to those SF pupusas until today!! We have been disappointed over and over until this morning. My family and I decided to try this place and it was legit! On point! The pupusas were cooked to perfection. They had good flavor, the chicharron was nice and soft and a little crispy, good amount of cheese... we also ordered platanos maduros con frijoles refritos y crema. Also very delicious. Platanos were perfect, beans had good flavor and that Salvadorian crema had a great flavor and nice thick consistency. Overall everything was delicious!

Love this place and so happy they are here. We have had nothing but issues with some of the other places in Pittsburg that sell Pupusas but this place is really good. They aren't on the menu but we LOVE the Jalapeno and Cheese Pupusas too! We come from Antioch to get our order from here because it's that good.

We ordered a few things to go: chicarron with yuca frita, pupusas , and tamales. Everything tasted pretty good. You get two tamales in one order. I wanted pork tamales but they only had chicken. I liked them but I have had better and they were a bit mushy. The masa was soft and the filling of potato and chicken was plentiful. The fried yucca and chicarron was delicious but my only complaint was that I found the order at over $8.00 to be kind of small. The pupusas were the best. Both the revueltas and the cheese ones were yummy with a nice amount of filling. I also liked that they gave plenty of curtido and that they were pretty fast coming out. They also sell salvadorean products like pineapple and guava semita, cheeses, and assorted snacks. The only downside is that they didn't have horchata or tamarindo. I will be back for pupusas for sure.

Came here for lunch one day since I was craving Salvadorian food and didn't want to commute too far. To my suprise the food was really good, very authentic, tasted just like how my grandma makes it back home . I am happy to say this will be my favorite to go Salvadorian restaurant whenever I crave pupusas or any Salvadorian dish I want to try.

My mom and I wandered in to have lunch. The pupusas were the best in the area.
    Good ingredients delivered great flavor.
Mom had a drink called "ensalada" I had jugo de "Chan"
    Delicious.

Don't be turned off by the location. Give it a try.
    Prices are reasonable.

Ordered pupusas from here twice already. I saw them on Yelp and decided to try them. These are pretty good, so good that even if you personally don't like the taste you will still leave fulfilled. I introduced them to my family, who are the pickiest Salvadoreios, and they loved them.

My family and I have tried all the pususa spots around Antioch, Pittsburg, and Concord and they are definitely top 2 most delicious pususa in the area.

    It's worth trying.
